Tradition, Reimagined.
A contemporary classic should never imitate the past. It should feel timeless from the very first moment while revealing something entirely new the longer you look. Every Consul writing instrument begins with respect for the enduring principles of fine writing and reinterprets them through contemporary form, refined proportions and purposeful detail.
Here, tradition does not stand still. It evolves.
The Story Behind Consul
Consul was founded by Alex Semanin and Kate Dmitrieva, creators of BENU, to explore another side of the art of writing instruments.
While BENU celebrates expressive colour, artistic experimentation and unconventional materials, Consul reflects a quieter vision rooted in contemporary interpretations of timeless design.
For Alex, this philosophy is deeply personal. His professional journey began in restoration, where years spent studying and preserving classical forms shaped a profound understanding of proportion, balance and the enduring principles of traditional design. That experience taught him not only how exceptional objects are made, but why they continue to feel relevant across generations.
Although his creative work has always embraced experimentation, he has never viewed classical design as something to simply reproduce. Instead, he sees it as a living language that continues to evolve. Consul became a natural opportunity to explore that vision through a contemporary interpretation of timeless writing instruments.
Together, Alex and Kate founded Consul to explore the belief that timeless design should not begin with the repetition of the past, but with the evolution of its principles.
Beyond Design
Every Consul writing instrument is designed and handcrafted at our production facility in Yerevan, Armenia.
Contemporary classic design is only the beginning. Every Consul pen reflects a commitment to precision engineering, proprietary materials, in-house manufacturing expertise and meticulous attention to detailы. Each component, finish and design decision reflects that same pursuit of lasting quality.
We believe exceptional products deserve an equally exceptional experience. From thoughtful customer support and long term service to continuous refinement of our materials and manufacturing techniques, every aspect of Consul is guided by the same commitment to craftsmanship, integrity and care.
Together, these values define Consul as much as the writing instruments themselves.
